The entire intent was to get people who attend youth sports events to chill out and just be a spectator, not a screaming, yelling problem, or what the page calls “cheeseburgers.” One day Barlow posted a referee abuse video and made a bold statement that ended up being on the sports cover of the New York Times. Completely flabbergasted and in shock Barlow’s decade of broadcast experience was about to pay off with 1000’s of media requests, interviews, and storylines. Barlow became the voice and advocate for officials of all sports.
Today Barlow is one of the leading speakers in the sports world and is often invited to conferences and clubs to talk about the negative effects of parents’ behavior on young athletes. He also talks about the dangerous reality of referee retention and how many games today and in the future won’t be played because referees are quitting at an alarming rate.
